    The University of Manitoba Student Counselling Centre (SCC) invites applications for one probationary (non-tenure track) full-time University Counselor position at the rank of Instructor I or II. Rank and starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and based on the collective agreement between the University of Manitoba and the University of Manitoba Faculty Association. 

    POSITION:

    As the primary mental health support service for University of Manitoba students, the SCC provides a variety of services to students including individual and group counselling, workshop and outreach programs, crisis support, and assessment services. In addition, the SCC provides consultation services to UM faculty and staff and is actively involved in the training of students in counselling training programs, including an accredited Psychology residency program. The SCC is an interdisciplinary service staffed by Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Master’s-level Counsellors, and Social Workers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide counselling services to a very diverse student population that includes Indigenous students as well as international students from 115 countries. This includes providing individual counselling, group and workshop programs and outreach services for a wide range of student needs such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity concerns and more. Opportunities will be available to pursue relevant counselling and mental health interests (e.g., developing programming related to professional interests) as well as to become involved in a variety of initiatives both within the SCC and the UM itself. Supervisory support is also available. This position will be based at the Fort Garry campus location of the University of Manitoba and the work hours will normally be 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. A benefit package accompanies this position. SCC counsellors also receive time and financial support for professional development and are eligible to apply for paid research and study leaves.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A doctoral degree in Counselling or Clinical Psychology is preferred.  Candidates possessing a Master’s degree in a counselling profession (e.g., Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work) will also be considered. The successful candidate must have a minimum of two years of supervised counselling experience with adults (please detail this training in your cover letter when applying). As well, the successful candidate must have experience working with diversity communities (e.g., Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, and racially marginalized groups). Applicants should include a personal statement on their past and present contributions to and future aspirations for promoting diversity, inclusion, and social justice in their professional career.

    Counselling experience with students attending a post-secondary institution is preferred.     The Department of Psychology in Fredericton has BA and BSc majors and honours programs as well as PhD programs in Clinical and Experimental Psychology. The program in Clinical Psychology is committed to the scientist-practitioner model and is accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association.     Reporting to the Clinical Director of Professional Practice and the Senior Clinical Manager, Adolescent Medicine, the Psychologist will be a collaborative partner with the Interdisciplinary Team in the Transgender Youth Clinic.  This position will provide psychology services through in-depth psychosocial assessments and interventions for the youth in the TYC. Following assessment, the psychologist will provide recommendations and guidance to the TYC patients, families and team in relation to gender identity in connection with other mental health needs. The team will integrate research into practice and create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge.

    • Provide psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment to children & adolescents with mental health difficulties as part of the Transgender Youth Clinic.

    Overview

    This position reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Science through the co-Directors of the psychology training clinic and the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) of the Clinical Psychology PhD program, in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. The Clinical Psychologist (CP) will work within a clinic team consisting of primarily psychologists and clinical psychology graduate students, as well as allied health professionals and other academic support personnel. The CP will primarily provide supervision and training to clinical psychology graduate students, with some limited involvement in psychological intervention as well as psychological assessments as appropriate for training purposes and continuity of care. Ultimately, this position will support the training and service mission of the psychology training clinic in providing breadth and depth of training for students across diverse psychological skills, and much needed mental health services to those currently facing barriers within the Halifax community, and throughout Nova Scotia.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • PhD/PsyD or PhD/PsyD candidate who is/will be eligible for registration as a clinical psychologist with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (adult, child/youth, and/or lifespan competency required). Applicants who are still PhD or PsyD candidates at the time of application will be required to have this qualification by December 31, 2023.
      Carries appropriate liability insurance as outlined by the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
      Scope of practice must include therapy and/or assessment with adults and/or children and youth.
      Demonstrated experience conducting and interpreting psychodiagnostic and/or psychoeducational assessments.
      Demonstrated skill and effectiveness in the application of a broad spectrum of evidence-based psychological interventions/therapies, especially Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or Trauma-focused interventions.
      Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.
      Demonstrated initiative and strong skills in problem-solving and decision-making.

      Strongly Preferred:
      Demonstrated experience in supervision of students providing psychological services.
      Experience providing sensitive and appropriate care for clients from a range of diverse backgrounds (e.g., racial, cultural, gender-identity, sexual orientation, disability).
      Strong skills in working within a team approach to training and supervision.
      Demonstrated skills in forming connections and liaising with community organizations.

    Profil recherché 

    Vous êtes titulaire d’une maîtrise en psychologie clinique et êtes titulaire d’une licence délivrée sous le régime de la Loi sur les psychologues du Nouveau-Brunswick. La connaissance de l’anglais parlé et écrit est nécessaire.

    The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is a dynamic and innovative environment that delivers patient-centred care through inter-professional collaborations.  This multi-campus organization is one of Canada’s largest Academic Health Sciences Centres and is affiliated with the University of Ottawa.     TOH Psychologists are part of an accomplished, collegial and vibrant group of Psychology staff, who are actively involved in clinical service, research, teaching and training.  TOH Psychology has a CPA accredited predoctoral internship program in Clinical Psychology.
