The Origins of Our Working Group
The CCPPP Working Group Against Racism and Discrimination in Canadian Psychology Training and Practice was formed in August 2020 to meet the commitments outlined in the CCPPP's Statement Against Racism and Discrimination. This working group is composed of psychology students, faculty, and professional psychologists from across Canada.
Current Initiative(s)
Graduate Student and Resident Survey In 2023 the Canadian Psychological Associated (CPA) released the revised Accreditation Standards for Doctoral and Residency Programs (6th revision). Our group designed this survey to gather information from graduate students across the country regarding this change and its potential impact so far. We are particularly interested in student perceptions of how programs are implementing the foundational competencies of ‘individual, social, and cultural diversity’ and ‘Indigenous interculturalism’ throughout their training programs. Our aim is to support advocacy for these standards and help develop resources that will be of value to program Directors of Clinical Training (DCTs) and Residency Directors of Training (DoTs) as they work to implement the new standards. Unique Resource for Psychology Training Programs
Co-Supervision in Canada
Co-supervision experiences allow psychology graduate students to receive professional training in areas where psychologists may not be regularly employed, but where members of historically under-served and under-represented groups are often accessing services. Our Recommendations and Guidelines for Establishing and Maintaining Co-Supervision Arrangements in Graduate Level Psychology Training is the first set of recommendations and guidelines designed for Canadian psychology programs to help facilitate co-supervision. See Page 12 for discussion with the APPI Coordinator about counting these hours! |
