Clinical Academic Fellow in Psychosocial Oncology and Psychological Trauma, Calgary

The Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Rehabilitation (Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary Alberta) and the Division of Psychosocial Oncology (Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary) are recruiting a Clinical Academic Fellow for the 2023-24 academic year. This opportunity is for interdisciplinary psychosocial professionals (i.e. completing doctoral training, residency training, or are fully licensed) seeking one year of specialized experience in Psychosocial Oncology and Psychological Trauma. Knowledge of cultural aspects of care and experience working with minoritized populations are preferred.

Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Psychosocial Oncology services are provided by a team of interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and addressing psychiatric illnesses of those affected by cancer. This team provides expert care at any stage of the cancer experience, including at diagnosis, during oncologic treatment, throughout survivorship, and towards end-of-life. The Department of Psychosocial Oncology provides clinical assessment and intervention in individual, couples, family, and group modalities in a rich team environment and is a leader in world-class research. This one-year Fellowship will focus on Psychosocial Oncology and psychological trauma, including clinical, research, program evaluation/development, and education opportunities. Training in evidence-based therapy orientations will include Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Coping with Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM), and Supportive Expressive Group Therapy. The Fellow will gain experience across tumour groups and will work in a hybrid setting, 3 days on-site and 2 days remotely. They will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, providing consultation, building professional networks in oncology, and potentially providing supervision. Primary supervisors will be Dr. Andrea Feldstain, Ph.D., R.Psych and Dr. Janet de Groot, MD, FRCPC, MSc.
